How to password protect a directory through DirectAdmin Control Panel
Password protecting a directory is useful when you have files (or a website) that you don't want to be accessable to everyone. For example, you could protect a directory for private company files, or protect a directory so that just a particular client can access it.
- Login to the DirectAdmin Control Panel (located at http://da1.hardlines.com or http://www.yourdomain.com/admin).
- In the Username field, type your administrator username.
- In the Password field, type your administrator password, and click Login.
- Once logged in, your screen will look like this:
- Under the Main Menu field, select Password Protected Dirs.
- Click Find a Directory to Password Protect.
- Open your public_html directory.
- Once you find the directory that you want to protect, click Protect next to that directory.
- Enter the name you want to give to your protected directory in the Protected Directory Prompt field.
- You can optionally set up a username and password that can access this directory.
- Click Save.
Note: After clicking Go Back you can delete or add additional users and passwords that can access this directory.
